The relationship between belief and action is one of the important issues in epistemology. Clifford separates belief from action following upon it, and considers the relationship between belief and action to be a decisive relationship. He considers beliefs as a network that each person's beliefs affect his other beliefs as well as the beliefs of other members of the society. Also, Clifford talks about the individual and social effects of belief, and all these indicate that, from his point of view, beliefs have a decisive effect on actions. For this effect, three hypotheses of direct and indirect effect and the effect of the network of beliefs on the act can be proposed. Clifford's point of view can be criticized along with his strong points, and one of them is that he has an extreme and definitive view on the effect of belief on action, and this is despite the fact that there are examples of violations in our lived experience. He does not answer the problems raised by externalism about the role of desire along with belief. He believes in command direct Voluntaryism and this point of view has been damaged and criticized a lot. Also, he has not paid attention to other factors affecting belief, such as affections, emotions, feelings, schemas, metacognition, and images, and he does not consider a role for the influence of a person's worldview on beliefs and weakness of will.
